OSRAM Showcases Innovative LED Solutions in Hong Kong International Lighting Fair 2008

OSRAM Opto Semiconductors announced its broad participation at Hong Kong International Lighting Fair 2008 to showcase a wide and varied range of light-emitting diode (LED) solutions for solid state lighting applications.

Hong Kong International Lighting Fair is one of the largest and well known lighting exhibitions in the world. Held at Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre from October 27 to Oct 30, this year’s HK Lighting Fair will have over 1,500 exhibitors. OSRAM is going to display products ranging from LED components to LED luminaire for commercial and consumer markets.

Setting new benchmarks in street lighting and office fixtures

LEDs, already widely recognized in automotive and display applications, are quickly entering the solid state lighting market, such as street/tunnel lamps and office fixture lighting. In the booth, OSRAM will demonstrate a street lamp and an office fixture lighting equipped with OSRAM’s Golden DRAGON LED family. These demos will address the interests and needs of end-users such as corporations looking for a lighting alternative with greater energy efficiency; and lighting designers looking at enhance the overall aesthetics of energy efficient designs.

OLED technologies that broaden designers’ creative horizons

Another highlight of the OSRAM display will be the first Hong Kong appearance of one of the extraordinary table lamps world-renowned lighting designer Ingo Maurer has created with OSRAM organic LEDs (OLEDs). An outstanding example of OSRAM’s ingenuity and Mr Maurer’s creativity, the limited edition “Early Future” lamp utilizes lighting tiles freshly developed by OSRAM’s advanced Research and Development laboratory.

OLEDs offer similarly low operating voltage and mercury-free design benefits to conventional LEDs. R&D programs are also working to increase the efficiency so that OLEDs will be a new high energy efficient light source for the future. These revolutionary new light sources also possess some impressive properties of their own. In using a uniform light-generating surface rather than a collection of individual light points as their primary light source, OSRAM OLEDs enable unprecedented levels of layering. The impressive end result is lights that are not only incredibly thin, but also amazingly scalable.
OLED open up the door for new lighting designs and will be a complementary light source to LED in the future.
